Ichthyostega is believed to be the first creature that first moved from the swamps onto land.

In order to accomodate the higher levels of gravitational pull, it had to adapt. But how it adapted, seems to keep surprising scientists.

I spoke to John R Hutchinson, a professor of evolutionary biomechanics (with a strange collection of animals in his freezer) from the Royal Veterinary College, about his research on Ichthyostega.
