Would you eat meat that has been grown in a lab rather than taken directly from the animal?

This is a question that I’ve been asking as preparations for the first lab-grown burger to be cooked are happening. Prof Mark Post from Maastricht university has been working on his lab grown muscle tissue for the past few years, and according to the media, the unveiling is to happen this year.

But what is a synthetic burger? How do you actually grow a piece of muscle in the lab? In September 2011, for a Pythagoras Trousers podcast, I spoke to Prof Post to find out a little more.

So, would the public actually eat it? I went out to ask them, and here’s what they said:

For the Twitter responses, I put together a Storify – lab grown meat!
